Web and technical

My general inquisitiveness ensures that I’m always learning new skills, and enjoy doing so. As a result of having worked for a broad range of companies over the last ten years I'm comfortable with most modern web technologies.

At the ‘front end’ of things I'm fluent at hand-coding XHTML, CSS and Javascript to web (and search-engine friendly) standards. These days I prefer to use XSLT in conjunction with XML to build websites. I’m also pretty comfortable with Flash animation and often use Flash as a platform for audio and video streaming applications.

At the ‘back end’ I am equally at home with PHP and ASP but can work with all sorts of databases and most server technologies and platforms.

My web hosting experience has afforded me valuable skills in management of both Windows and LAMP based server platforms, as well as good general knowledge of database, mail and web servers, streaming media services along with server security, permissions and firewalls.

Print

I come from a print design background and have a fairly engrained understanding of grids and typography. In fact I bring those same values with me to the web world. I’m just as happy designing a little postcard as I am a 56-page brochure in 5 languages. I like print. You can touch it, feel it, smell it. That's something you'll never be able to do with the web. Yet.
